Tips to Help Us Help You

WELL CHILD VISITS/PHYSICALS
Appointments for physicals fill up very fast, so book them as early as possible.  We can usually schedule appointments up to two months in advance.  Make sure to ask for your physical exam form at the end of your child’s check up.  These forms are good for one year for daycare, school, camp, and sports.

Make sure that your insurance company will cover your child’s well visit if it has been less than a year since the last one.  Some insurance companies require a full calendar year between well visits (starting at age 2 years) while others allow a physical anytime within each year (one in 2015, one in 2016, one in 2017, etc.)

AFTER HOURS CALLS
Our night/weekend “ON CALL” service offers advice from trained pediatric nurses when our office is closed.  These nurses have access to one of our Pediatricians if the problem is beyond their scope of experience.  If you have a non-emergent question or problem, it is best to call during regular business hours.  We can give you more consistent advice during the day and the daytime nurse can get advice from your primary physician regarding your question.

In some cases, your child’s injury or illness may need evaluation at an emergency facility.  We recommend the Pediatric Urgent Care at Upstate Community Hospital Campus (4900 Broad Road, Syracuse) or the Pediatric Emergency Room at SUNY Upstate Hospital (750 East Adams Street, Syracuse).  At both of these locations, your child will be seen by physicians trained in pediatric emergencies.  We do not recommend the other area emergency rooms or urgent care settings as these facilities use physicians and mid-level providers that have much less experience with children.

CHRONIC/LONG STANDING PROBLEMS

If your child has a chronic problem such as headaches, stomach aches, anxiety ,or school problem, you should schedule an appointment with your primary physician. You can prebook these visits in either office with the pediatrican that knows your child best.
